With Dr. Seuss’ birthday quickly approaching, my kids and I wanted to make a cute craft with some of our favorite characters from his books-Thing One and Thing Two! The Cat in the Hat is definitely a much-loved piece of literature at our house.
These adorable fluffy blue-haired fellows always give my kids a laugh as they run amuck, making mischief of all sorts in Sally’s house.
So I thought, how fun would it be to make little Thing One and Thing Two wooden bookmarks? My kids use them as more of toys, but they’re also very functional in our large Dr. Seuss story collection book.
{SUPPLIES}
Jumbo popsicle sticks/tongue depressors
Mini blue pom poms
Small Wooden circles (I found mine at Hobby Lobby) Mine are 1 1/2″ in diameter
Red and white craft paint
Tiny Googly Eyes
Hot Glue Gun
Black Permanent Marker
Start by painting your sticks (the bodies) red and your circles (which will be the heads) white.
Allow them to dry completely.
Paint a white circle onto the red stick (I used a circle dot sponge). An adult will need to do this next part. Hot glue a rim of blue pom poms around the head, then hot glue a few more pom poms to those so you have layers and lots of fluff. Hot glue on the googly eyes.
Now the child can draw on a mouth and write Thing 1 or Thing 2 on the body. That’s it!
Now use them to mark your place in a favorite Dr. Seuss book or let the kids go to town playing with the cute little guys!
Have fun crafting with your kiddos!
Tell me, do you do anything special to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday on March 2nd?
