Chocolate Nut Chewies are a delicious treat to satisfy that chocolate craving! They’re perfectly chewy, chocolatey and amazing!
Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars are one of my most favorite desserts ever! You just can’t go wrong with a chocolate chip cookie in any form! Don’t you agree? These delightful bars are loaded with chocolate and nuts, so the texture and flavor is absolutely incredible! You can add whatever kind of nuts you prefer. Walnuts or pecans are both very acceptable choices. I used pecans, because I’m kind of obsessed with pecans in cookies.
I love the shiny tops and the chewy centers in these Chocolate Nut Chewies! Baking time is critical to keep that chewy-amazing texture. Be sure not to over bake! The key is to check it often while it’s in the oven. You’ll want to bake it just until it’s barely set and no longer jiggly in the center. If too much browning is happening, you’re probably over baking them. They will set up even more after you remove them from the oven, so count on that.
I mean, these are simply irresistible! Imagine what would happen if you took a big plateful of these chewy chocolate chip cookie bars to a gathering. They will disappear fast! Everyone will be singing praises to you for spending a little bit of time in the kitchen to make their taste buds very, very happy. 🙂
My family went wild for these. My mom made them often, growing up, but it’s one of those recipes that I hadn’t made in a long time for my kids. I have deep regrets about that. These chewies are so easy to throw together and will blow you away with their scrumptious qualities.
In order to bake them to perfection, set the timer for 15 minutes and keep checking them every few minutes after that. I hate to repeat myself, but bake time is critical in order to achieve that chewy, incredible texture! Even if they look slightly underdone, go ahead and take them out. They’ll continue to bake up after being removed from the oven.
A special note. The recipe calls for a weird amount of butter. But, not to worry. To measure 2/3 cup of butter, simply take two sticks of butter and slice 5 1/3 Tablespoon off of each. You’ll see the Tablespoon marks on the wrapper. Save the excess for another baking project. You’ll want to soften the butter a little too.

Chocolate Nut Chewies
Ingredients
- 2/3 c. butter softened *see note below for measuring the butter
- 2 c. brown sugar packed
- 3 large eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. chopped nuts walnuts or pecans
- 1 1/2 c. semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and lightly spray a 9"x13" pan with nonstick baking spray.
- In the bowl of an electric mixer, cream together softened butter, brown sugar, eggs and vanilla.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Add flour mixture to the wet mixture and mix just until incorporated, scraping down the sides in between.
- Stir in nuts and chocolate chips.
- Spread evenly in prepared pan.
- Bake for approximately 23-25 minutes. Be very careful not to over bake or they'll lose their chewy texture. Set the timer for about 18 minutes at first and then keep checking them every few minutes to avoid over baking. They're done when they're barely set up and not jiggly in the center. You don't want too much browning to happen. They'll continue to set up after being removed from the oven, so plan accordingly.
- Let them cool and set up completely, then slice and enjoy!
