These Grinch Cookies are the ultimate festive Christmas dessert! Share them at a cookie exchange or with neighbors and friends, coworkers, etc!
How the Grinch Stole Christmas has been on repeat around here the past few weeks! The kids really love the cartoon version. I’m crazy about all of them and can’t wait to see the new one in theaters as part of our Christmas Eve celebrations!
I appreciate the message of having a big heart, not just for this season of giving, but always. My family and I are trying to find ways to make our community and neighborhood better this month by small and simple tasks. Because it’s the little things that really count!
One of the ways to do that is by sharing goodies! If these cookies don’t bring a smile and joyful mood, then I don’t know what will!
It’s so sweet in the movie when the Grinch realizes that Christmas “doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas, perhaps…means a little bit more!” This is the message I’m trying to send to my children every time this special time rolls around. It makes my heart so happy watching them willingly and anxiously purchase the perfect gifts for each other with their hard-earned dollars or putting together a surprise package for their teachers with love.
I can’t get enough of the warm, fuzzy feelings and sweet emotions that accompany this wonderful season! Truly my greatest joys come when I see my kids immersing themselves in giving instead of concerning themselves with the getting.
“In Whoville they say that the grinch’s small heart grew three sizes that day”. And immediately he was all smiles! I think it’s so interesting to see the difference our attitudes can make on our overall state of being. True joy comes from gratitude and giving, not from “things”.
I hope you will share these delicious cookies with loved ones this Christmas!
These are a sugar-cookie of sorts with yummy almond extract instead of vanilla. Roll the dough into balls, then use a fork to carefully make two indents, perpendicular to each other. Press a cute red candy on top of the pretty green cookies for the finishing touch after baking!
Grinch Cookies
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 c. butter softened
- 1 large egg
- 3/4 tsp. almond extract
- 2 3/4 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- Green food coloring or gel
- Red candies I used M&M's
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and line cookie sheets with nonstick baking mats.
- In the bowl of an electric mixer cream together sugar and butter until fluffy. Add egg and almond extract and mix until incorporated, scraping down the sides as necessary.
- In a separate bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, cream of tartar and salt. Add to the wet mixture and mix until incorporated. Mix in enough green food coloring to achieve desired color.
- Form dough into 1 1/2" balls and set on cookie sheets at least 2" apart. Use a fork to press dough down in a criss cross pattern, perpendicular to each other.
- Place in oven and bake for approximately 8 minutes. Remove from oven and immediately press a red candy in the center of each cookie. Let cool for 5-10 minutes on the cookie sheets, then carefully remove cookies to a cooling rack to cool completely.
You’re going to be crazy for these! Enjoy the holiday season and happy baking!
